I’m a film geek, so movies in general and going to the cinema specifically is something I’ve always been keen to share with our daughter.
Taking her to the movies started young, and the first Paddington film was one of the early times we went (she was just 2 when it came out). The movie has become a family favourite, so a trip to the new Paddington 2 was always on the cards.
We went to see it at our local Cineworld in Hemel Hempstead. It’s a great place to come with the kids – we’ve been here with friends and family many times, but today it was just me & the kid.
This multiplex has a range of screening formats, and for Paddington 2 we chose the 2D Cineworld Superscreen option.
I’m a cinema snob, and have seen movies at some of the best cinemas across the globe. The Cineworld’s Superscreen experience can rival any of them.
Firstly the size of the screen. It’s huge! It basically goes from floor to ceiling.
To ensure you don’t get any heads in the way of your view, the auditorium has a nicely steep incline, so the row in front is below your sight line. In fact, the screen fills up pretty much your entire field of vision, so it’s a very immersive way to watch a movie.
Taking advantage of the massive screen, the auditorium also has crystal clear digital projection with rich colours and great detail (which showed off Paddington’s CGI furriness in all its glory). It also had a terrific sound system to match the picture quality.
The seating offers plenty of legroom, and the roomy comfy seats even recline. With the obligatory child booster seats provided, this was a great way for a kid to watch a movie.
Before the film starts, I always look forward to movie trailers. They still get me excited about films coming out. We’ve aleady seen Thor: Ragnarok (so good…), and daughter is very keen to check out Justice League, (pretty sure that’s the Wonder Woman effect – but she’s a Flash fan too).
But I got chills watching the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi on this screen. To say I can’t wait is an understatement, and neither can our daughter. Needless to say we will be seeing the movie opening weekend, and this Cineworld Superscreen would be the perfect place to do so.
Of course, we were here to see Paddington 2, which we loved. It has the same charm of the first film, and there is such an abundance of great British & Irish acting talent in the cast. But the stand out is clearly Hugh Grant, and what must be his best performance since Bridget Jones’ Diary.
The Cineworld Superscreen more than did the film justice, and I can’t imagine the experience being better than seeing it the way did.
You can book tickets to see Paddington 2 at your nearest Cineworld Superscreen, and check out what else is on there too.
