LEGO DC Heroes of Justice: Sky High Battle review (76046)

One of the (few) great things about the movie Batman V Superman was the big screen debut of Wonder Woman. Another great thing is the character’s increased visibility in merchandise, such as this LEGO DC Heroes of Justice: Sky High Battle set.

Wonder Woman is pretty much THE female superhero, a feminist icon since her creation 75 years ago. She has taken on many guises over the decades, but her links to Greek mythology have often been highlighted since the 1980’s.

Her latest live-action incarnation, and this LEGO version, takes inspiration from this so she has a sword and shield as accessories (though the iconic ‘Lasso of Truth’ is still part of the character).

Anyway, this is a 500 piece set that constructs two vehicles – the Batwing and Lex Luthor’s Helicopter.

The minifigures included are the aforementioned Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Lex Luthor, and Lois Lane.

Wonder Woman has the muted tones of her movie appearance as well as the sword, shield, and Gal Godot’s brown hair; Batman has a grey & black outfit and a grapple gun; Superman has Cavill’s hair model locks and an optional angry heat vision face, Lex has hair and a beige suit, while Lois Lane has a camera and a pair of oddly timid expressions (perturbed or pathetic).

While stated age is 8-14, our 4-year-old daughter was fine making this with minimal oversight. The copter is nice little vehicle, while the main event of the set is the Batwing.

I’ve loved the rebranding of the Batplane as a kind of flying Batsymbol since I first saw it in the 1989 Batman movie. I’m a little disappointed that this version looks less like the symbol, but it’s still a pretty mean vehicle.

Of the moving parts, the Helicopter has propellers and hinged cockpit. The Batwing also has hinged cockpit and fold up wings using a lever at the back.

Luthor’s vehicle comes with what look like Kryptonite missiles, while the Batwing has the LEGO equivalent of a Gatling Gun – a revolving stud shooter. There can be no surer way of losing your smallest pieces of LEGO than deploying this in mid play (I know, we tried it out).

This is a fun set with good playability afterwards, but for us it was most notable for the great Wonder Woman minifigure that comes with it.

  1. How weird are her expressions? I suppose as she appears in more than the one set she has to vary, but they are a bit ‘meh’ for play or display. Great set for the money though, and a really good selection of figures 🙂

  2. I’m sure Ben would love this.
(I think I’d look like Lois if my camera was that enormous!)
Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested this week x
